school lunches and other rituals...

i was just watching a thing about school lunches and how it might be partly responsible for the obesity in kids here in the us.

i think this is true from what my niece and nephews tell me about what they get from school lunches....but it got me to thinking about when i was in elementary school and weight problems or the problems that start them.

1) by the 5th grade i thought i was fat because i was weighed by the school nurse in front of the rest of my class...even though i was the tallest in my class and now knw i wasn't over weight.

I am so sorry for the way your mother treated you.

Mommies are supposed to give hugs, kisses for boo boo's and unconditional love. This is what I am giving my boys.

My mother was always on a diet and that meant I was on a diet too...even though I wasn't fat as a child. She was also a hypocrite because she hid candy bars in her room and binged. No wonder she needed to diet.

I did have a weight problem after high school and got up to over 350 lbs. Then she was really disgusted with me and offered every bit of diet advice in the world. I lost the weight after having gastric bypass 3 years ago and now my mother has gained quite a bit of the weight I lost....so I guess what goes around comes around.

How did you meet your spouse?

in our local sunday paper, there's a regular feature on how married couples met.

i've been touched by some of the stories.

i'm curious as to how you met your spouse.

Why Georgia

My husband and I met on the internet. We'll have been together 8 years and married for 6 of them.

He was living in Sweden then back in Massachusetts and I was in California. We met in person after a few months of emails and hundreds of dollars in phone bills. Spent 3 weeks attatched at the hip, he went home packed and we've been together ever since.

2 little boys, 2 big dogs, 4 cats, and 10 fish later...

She's back - here we go again!

i've written about this many times here.

my jehovahs witness mother in law has decided that she wants to be a part of our life again (this week).

we have basically disfellowshipped her from our lives because she refuses to follow our rules.

Truenote - Welcome to the board and thank you for your thoughts on this subject. I am sorry you have been treated badly for leaving the Watchtower.

It's very hard for me to be loving to someone who hated me before she even met me and has continued to cause problems in my marriage and instigate lies with our family. If she were sorry and didn't do it again...maybe, but she cannot change or show any form of true love.

Movies that make me cry

ok i just finished watching antwone fisher.

it's not the first time i've watched it.not even the second or third time.

i've seen it a lot.

Good Will Hunting always makes me cry when Robin Williams tells him what happened to him is not his fault...sniff sniff.

I watched Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants this weekend and cried a lot.

Steel Magnolias...that's a box of kleenex right there!

I also recently watched Beyond Borders with Angelina Jolie and cried a bunch...

Special meeting & a mini ramble about Xmas lights

we were out christmas shopping and drove past the kingdom hall.

7:30 pm on a saturday night..not an empty parking space to be found.

there were more cars than when the memorial happens.. drove by at 9:30 pm and more than 3/4's of the parking lot was still full.... why would there be a meeting?

A lot of the churches here decorate for Christmas. Quite a few of them have Nativity scenes, but some of the others have full blown chrismas light coverage.

One of the Catholic Churches - La Sallette Shrine has a massive Christmas Light Festival with 50 different Nativity scenes from many different countries. We go every year and its amazing.

Why Iraq Is So Desperately Important

I think 9/11 was shocking for a lot of people and it brought a lot of attention to the Muslim community - to people like me...Oprah watching minivan driving soccer mom's.

When Muslim extremists come here to the USA and go into an grade school and do what they did to the school in Beslan, Russia it will be over.

I feel the minute all the Mothers in the USA get off their starbucks drinking, minivan/suv driving, play group organizing butts....this world will be a better place.

It's great that we are here taking care of our kids...but we can't hide our heads in the sand that the world is a dangerous place and getting more dangerous by the minute.

I feel its up to the women...because when Momma aint happy....nobody is happy.

Just my humble opinion.

I personally would love to see someone decorate the kingdom hall with all kinds of holiday decorations...Christmas, Halloween, Easter, Thanksgiving...Then have a sign that says " We don't believe in any of this cr*p" I'm sure their neighbors would love them.

Breast Cancer

Hi Sally,

Last december I found a lump in my breast...I didn't do anything for 3 weeks except worry. Then I finally told my husband and he made me go to the doctors. I was terrified because of my family history with cancer. I went and they did an ultrasound and blood tests and found it was nothing but they want to check it again when I am done breastfeeding my son.

I have already thought about what I would do if I was diagnosed with breast cancer because my aunt has had it. I would have a mastectomy. I couldn't stand to not be here to watch them grow up.

I'd do whatever I had to do to be here.

I am sorry for this happening to you - if there is anything I can do or any of us here please don't hesitate to ask.

Shocking News!

what was the most shocking news you have ever heard ?.

for example: jfk assassinated in dallas!.

elvis found dead in bathroom!.

#1 shock in life was going to high school one day and watching my best friend be shot in the head by her boyfriend on our way into Algebra class.

#2 OKC bombing - a member of our family was going to the federal building that morning and we were frantic.

#3 911 - I was watching on TV with our first son.

#4 One month later, my cousin was killed we drove through NYC on our way to NC and I could still see the smoke in the air from the WTC. Wish you were here by Incubus came on the radio....I couldn't stop crying.

I want to see your children, but shun you!

i have relatives in the jehovah's witness religion still, and in-laws.

because my spouse and me were never officially disfellowshipped, they have a hard time with how to shun us.

basically, they don't.

My mother who is not a JW would die if she didn't have access to her grandchildren.

My husbands mother who is a JW comes and goes. She doesn't have any bit of the love or bond my mother has with our children.

It's really sad and disgusting that love is polluted and defiled with some JW's. They don't really know the true meaning of uncondtional love.

It's funny and sad to me because my MIL's next door neighbor is a JW and she has commented to us that she doesn't understand how MIL could treat our children this way. Their own son is completely inactive, celebrates Christmas, drinks and smokes and they have his son every weekend and even give him Xmas gifts and easter baskets because they don't want to seem like the bad grandparents....

I'm a bit jealous.
